Same here, 56 now and I first noticed it in summer 2020 while doing errands. Spent about 2 hours going from store to store, I swear an evil spirit was jumping from a person to another atleast 7 times while they were walking towards me. Their traits changed in a second, they gave me a chilling glance and I could feel it going down my spine.

As a former ASUS employee, none of this surprises me. I used ASUS products for 20+ years, and will never touch another one, due to the way they treated customers, and how they handled laying me off. They tried to push me into signing a form that said I would never say anything negative about ASUS, its current/future products, or current/future employees. If I do ever say anything negative, they assured me they would take legal action. Since I didn’t sign it, I received no severance pay, which goes against the whole „we’re a family“ thing that they push on you from the moment you join.
Edit: For those asking, the document was called a „Non-disparagement agreement“ and while it wasn’t illegal at the time, such practices have been outlawed in the US since. I would guess that they don’t use this practice any longer, but they did when I was laid off last year.

If there was any company I would push off is MSI I have hand fulls of absolutely horrible experiences with MSI… and many products coming faulty. Now I don’t know what brand I can go to when building computers for people and myself.

I bought a Strix Z790-E in February. It was up and running with frequent USB issues until it bricked with a „USB over current detected“ issue about 3 weeks later. After some basic customer support, it was sent off for RMA. They find a single bent pin on the CPU socket and inform me this isn’t under warranty (I didn’t really think to check before sending it.“

6 or 7 years ago, when I built my current PC, Asus used to be the best of the bunch.
My last three builds had Asus motherboards. I’m avoiding them like the plague now, this isn’t the only issue with them according to other videos I’ve seen.
I’m probably going Gigabyte or ASRock now I think for my next build.“

Asrock was pretty solid in 2009…and could make a Deneb Triple Core transforming into a Phenom 4 Core with just a BIOS Switch.

Das Problem ist halt, dass KI´s selbst Sachen blockieren oder löschen, die an sich harmlos sind, weil der Kontext oft nicht verstanden wird.

Leider wird auch das Firmen nicht davon abhalten, weiterhin..auf Microschrott-Software zu setzen. Es ist einfach nur krass, wie der Laden sich alles erlauben kann, nur weil sie das Monopol haben. Da haben Banken strengste Sicherheitsrichtlinien und verbieten fast alles an Software, was man sich zum Arbeiten wünscht, aber hier bleiben die Grenzen offen. Ich bezweifle, dass sich das ändern wird. „Wir haben menschliche Prüfer, die Regelverstöße überprüfen und bestätigen, welche Maßnahmen ergriffen werden. Diese Leute können auf bestimmte Arten von Schäden spezialisiert sein oder die arbeiteten an einem bestimmten Dienst.“

Es kann einfach nicht sein, dass man auf Betriebssystem Level so ausspioniert wird. Meiner Meinung nach muss das Betriebssystem unabhängig und non-profit sein. Leider ist Linux oder BSD noch nicht da wo es sein muss, aber es ist eindeutig die wünschenswerte Zukunft.

Es wird Zeit, dass auch viele Softwarehersteller anfangen primär Linuxversionen ihrer Programme rauszubringen. Ich beschäftige mich mit 3D Modellierung und CGI, Blender is da schon lange die OpenSource Go-To Lösung. Ein paar andere weigern sich immer noch… Dann gibt es aber sogar noch einige wirkliche Industriestandards, wie Houdini und Substance Painter die bereits Linuxversionen haben. Bei Games scheint es seit einiger zeit auch endlich mal weiterzugehen (thx to Valve und Proton (auch wenn ich deren Steam DRM ned so toll finde)).

Wichtige Ergänzung:
Windows 10 und Windows 11, jeweils ohne Konto, fallen nicht unter den Servicevertrag.
Die Kontrolle findet dann auch auf Linux Systemen statt, die Ms Produkte (wie z.B. Teams) nutzen.“

Der Ansatz mit „dann suche ich mir was anderes“ ist zwar lobenswert, aber mit moderner Hardware kaum mehr zu machen. Wie du schon sagst, kannst du teilweise auf Hardware kein Linux installieren, weil das Bios das nicht erlaubt. Daher, wenn eine so große Firma so einen Blödsinn baut, muss man sie vor EU Gericht ziehen und wegen DSGVO Verstoß belangen. 4% vom Jahresumsatz tun denen auch richtig weh…“

Bin auch vor kurzem komplett auf Arch Linux umsteigen und mein Workflow ist einfach mal so viel geiler als unter Windows als Entwickler. Und zum Thema Hardware und Games keine Probleme gehabt dank Valve, Wine, Flatpak und DXVK funktioniert alles mit kleinen wenig Konfiguration natürlich. Die Sache mit der Chatkontrolle betrefft mich auch weil ich viele Google-Diensten nutze.

PhotoDNA is leider nicht quelloffen, aber soweit ich es verstehe benutzen sie perceptual hashing (was im gegensatz zu ’normalem‘ hashing bei kleinen veraenderungen im bild einen aehnlichen hash erzeugt). mit dem laesst sich die „distanz“ zwischen originalbild und modifizierter version (z.b. beschnitten, farben angepasst) bestimmen. je kleiner die distanz desto aehnlicher das bild.

Ja die Überwachung nimmt einfach extrem zu. Aber leider ist man teilweise dauerhaft von Microsoft abhängig. Ich bin Hobby Musik-Produzent, Zocke gerne mal das eine oder andere Spiel. Meine Musik-Software und die VST´s sind alle nicht mit Linux kompatibel…aber ich werde mir in Zukunft auf jeden Fall noch einen zweit-PC mit Linux aufsetzen, wo ich dann meine Programmierungen, Texte schreiben usw. mache.
